I charge $75/hour for a comprehensive edit (which includes substantive and proofing, or line edits). Though my rate might be slightly higher than other editors, please consider:
With editing, like many other things in life, most of the time, you get what you pay for.
I’ve edited for so long I can do it much more quickly than most. So, another editor might charge $50/hour but take twice as long. Would you rather pay $100 for something I could finish in one hour and charge you only $75?
If you have doubts, I’m happy to offer you a one-time, 30-minute, sample edit. Just contact me to set it up, and I’ll have you submit your sample pages.
RATES:
- Ebook formatting: $200-$300, depending on the length
- Physical product formatting (softcover copy through Amazon’s CreateSpace): $.01/word (Example: If your manuscript has 75,000 words, the cost would be $750.00.)
You have to ask yourself if you have the passion and resolve to sustain enthusiasm for your project for at least a year or two because that’s generally how long it takes to finish, edit and self-publish a manuscript.
